West Ham United’s Nayef Aguerd has been on loan at Real Sociedad since last summer and has been featuring regularly when available for selection.

The centre-back played 2,928 minutes from 36 games but his game time has been restricted since March’s international break. To put it context, he played 117 minutes from two games.

Last month, we covered claims from Spain which stated the West Ham owned player was struggling with a tendon problem.

Fast forward to May and the 29-year-old has been left out of the squad to face Celta Vigo later today. El Diario Vasco, a newspaper local to Real Sociedad, explains why Aguerd will miss the upcoming league clash.

The Morocco international played the full 90 minutes in La Real’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla on March 9th. His next league appearance came against in the goalless draw against Athletic on May 4th.

Imanol Alguacil included him in the starting lineup against Atlético Madrid, but the player was forced to withdraw before the match started.

The report states the West Ham man missed last weekend’s clash due to a ‘recurring patellar tendon problems’. Aguerd’s situation hasn’t improved, nor has he trained since then.

As things stand, he has to return to West Ham after his loan spell and the injury problem will be a concern for the Hammers.
