The past week in the transfer rumour mill has been very Gianluca Scamacca heavy for West Ham United.
The Italian first saw his agency part ways with him, allegedly against his will, before stories about a return to Italy started to appear.
There’s no denying that his big €35m+ transfer from Sassuolo in the summer has been a disappointment to date, despite David Moyes taking his time with his West Ham integration rather than throwing him in at the deep end.
He repaid that with a few goals in the Conference League and three in the Premier League, but a return of seven strikes in 26 appearances in all competitions isn’t what the Hammers had in mind when they signed the 23-year-old.
That’s why the idea of a return to Italy, where he would be far more comfortable, has been touted, with both AC Milan and Inter Milan reportedly interested in Saving Private Scamacca.
Calciomercato have an article on the subject, and make it clear that ‘there has been no contact to bring him’ to the former of those two sides to date.
The issue, for Milan, Inter and other Italian sides, is that West Ham will want to make their money back on a sale and potentially more, which is why a fee of ‘no less than €40-45m is needed’.
This is why ‘a return of Scamacca to Serie A seems unlikely at the moment’.
Therefore, it seems that unless an Italian side make a big sale in the coming transfer window and reinvest in the West Ham man, or the Hammers agree to a loan, the player is stuck in the Premier League for the time being.
