Just a few days ago, a report in France suggested West Ham were trying to bolster their midfield by looking in Ligue 1.
The name of the player was Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who had a good season in the French top-tier with Strasbourg following his move last summer from RC Lens.
They weren’t the only ones, as it was made clear by the Foot Mercato report that Fiorentina were also on the case, which has been picked up by Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday.
According to the Italian newspaper, executives of the Florence based club ‘have been following for some time’, naming the presence of West Ham as the main challenge.
That’s because the Hammers, clearly intent on signing Bellegarde, ‘have been trying to beat the competition over the last few hours’.
This follows claims of an interest in Lucas Torreira and Leandro Paredes for Fiorentina, who, much like West Ham, it seems, have made bolstering their midfield a priority this summer.
Bellegarde would likely be the cheaper of their options, and that’s something David Moyes and those in charge at London Stadium will be aware of too.
Either way, this could get interesting.
