It’s been around a month since we last heard from Johan Djourou in Germany, and things haven’t improved for the reported West Ham target at HSV.

When we last had something worthwhile to bring you, the former Arsenal defender had just picked up another ‘convenient’ injury that saw him miss a game he probably didn’t want to play in.

This came after a big fall out with his current manager that saw him lose the club’s captaincy, as well as him publicly criticising his boss about how he dealt with things during the last international break.

Still, the prospect of picking up a decent defender on a free has left West Ham still keeping tabs on the situation.

At least, that was the case back in March.

One thing is guaranteed, however, which is that Johan Djourou will be a free agent in the summer after the Switzerland international has been ‘fired’ from the first-team squad following another thumping at the weekend that saw HSV lose 4-0 to Augsburg.

Bild report on Wednesday several players have been told they’re no longer a part of the squad, and were told they could either train with the U21 squad or do so privately.

With fewer responsibilities for the defender, now would probably be the time for Slaven Bilic to approach Johan Djourou if he is indeed keen on his services.

Crystal Palace also tried to sign him in January, meaning they could rival the Hammers in the summer.
