West Ham’s ability to be in seven different places at once this summer has truly been incredible, but, despite a number of signings already completed, they’re still not ready to put the phone down just yet.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Hammers are still working on trying to bring back Joao Mario, who spent the second half of last season on loan from Inter with them, where he performed reasonably well.
The Portugal international’s preferred destination would be England, but with the Premier League transfer window shutting in just over 24 hours, his dream is quickly fading.
However, West Ham aren’t giving up, and while they don’t have the money to pull off a permanent transfer, they are interested in either repeating the formula they used in January (dry loan) or, if Inter aren’t into that, a loan with a view to buy next season.
Lurking in the background are Betis, who are simply waiting for Friday, hoping Mario is still there for the taking after the English deadline, giving them more room to negotiate without having the Premier League side and their money looming over them as competition.
It could be a busy 24 hours for West Ham.
