As Nikola Maksimovic’s departure from Napoli edges closer, West Ham United continue to be seen as contenders for the defender’s signing.
It’s Italian outlet Calciomercato.it who brings an update on the situation today, claiming it’s quite unlikely that the Serie A side will renew his current contract, which expires in the summer.
That’s why Maksimovic is said to be keeping an eye on the options he has, and that’s where West Ham’s interest comes in.
Calcio Mercato says the Hammers tried to find an agreement with Napoli by offering up to €25m for the signing, but president Aurelio De Laurentiis didn’t even want to open negotiations.
Now with Maksimovic possibly leaving as a free agent, West Ham are one of the ‘interested spectators’, along with Inter Milan, Milan and German sides.
There’s no information on who would have the player’s preference, although the website points out that all of these clubs competing with the Hammers have a good relationship with agent Fali Ramadani.
