After a flurry of articles suggesting West Bromwich Albion’s Kamil Grosicki was edging towards a move to Legia Warsaw, it’s all gone a bit quiet.

There have been few updates over the past couple of days in Poland regarding the potential return of the winger to his former club, and there’s a reason for that.

TVP pick it up with what appears to be their own information, explaining that the ‘case between Legia and the Pole did not actually move in the last few days’.

The reason for that, as mentioned previously, is the money needed for the transfer to go through.

They report that Grosicki earns over €1.5m a year at West Brom under Sam Allardyce these days, and that is simply an amount ‘that is not available to Legia’.

Even with the forward being ‘able to lower his expectations by more than half’, €750k or so a year ‘are still colossal amounts in the context of the Polish champions’.

That means Grosicki is really going to have to dig deep if he wants the move, finding a way to live on far less money than he currently earns if this is to take place.

The alternative is Legia finding money down the back of the sofa, but that doesn’t appear to be something they’re going to be able to do before the end of their transfer window.

It’s either that or the player stays at the Hawthorns until the end of the season, with a good chance of missing the Euros if he does.
