Bursting onto the worldwide scene with some great performances for West Ham United following a move from Marseille, Dimitri Payet has been linked with many big clubs this summer.

The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are only some of a few names thrown around by the European media, and it seemed the player himself had put the stories to bed with an interview in the Sun, where he said he was ‘100% staying at West Ham’.

However, it would have been difficult for the Frenchman to talk to the sun, considering the player is currently on holiday, as explained by the player’s agent to Daily Mercato.

He said: “I’m surprised by this information considering Dimitri hasn’t given an interview to The Sun nor to any other media. The only thing that is sure is that he’s taking advantage of his very deserved holidays and is nursing the wounds caused by the Euro final loss.

“He currently only thinking about recuperating. These claims are just pure invention from the mind of a journalist. This clarification was needed.”

Interestingly enough, the agent didn’t go out of his way to put the stories to bed when he was given the opportunity to, but West Ham probably aren’t too worried about losing their key man considering he’s only just joined and that they’ve slapped a £50m+ price tag on him.

For a 29-year-old, albeit a very good one, that’s a lot of money.

Then again, his contract does run until 2021.
