Currently relying on Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop for the centre-back position, David Moyes is going to want to add to the trio this summer.
There’s no guarantee that Angelo Ogbonna will return the same from his serious knee injury, either, which is why seeing West Ham United linked with Nikola Milenkovic once more isn’t a surprise.
The Hammers already came close to signing the Serbian last summer, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute and for him to sign a one-year extension with Fiorentina.
West Ham haven’t given up, however, with Corriere Fiorentino stating on Thursday that while ‘new voices have to be recorded on Juventus’ interest’, the defender is ‘already followed by Inter and some English clubs’.
Moyes’ side are ‘spearheading’ the latter, but that doesn’t mean he will automatically end up going elsewhere.
That’s because Fiorentina are currently in a good league position, eyeing up a European spot, which they hope could convince Milenkovic to stay longer once more.
As for West Ham, their own table finish could be key in the kind of players they can bring in, with some sort of Europa League or Conference League spot needed to get a player of the Serbian’s ilk to overlook other offers.
