Sheffield Wednesday’s almost obsessive scouting of Portuguese football continued on Saturday, with the club having an official watch Benfica against Chaves.
Carlos Carvalhal kicked off the scouting of matches in Portugal for Sheffield Wednesday, but since he’s left the club the same pattern has continued, and if anything it’s becoming more common.
After watching Sporting draw 1-1 with Vitoria Setubal on Friday, they were at Benfica on Saturday, and were joined by West Ham United, report Record.
Benfica won the match 3-0 with Jonas scoring 2 goals and Pizzi the other. West Ham have been repeatedly linked with Benfica striker Raul Jimenez, and the Mexican came on as a late substitute.
As is usually the case, regardless of how much time he gets on the pitch, Jimenez was unable to impress. Benfica have been trying to sell the striker for over a year, disappointed when he knocked back a big offer from China.
At one point asking for over €50m for Jimenez, which was laughable, Benfica will have to lower their demands hugely to make the signing any use for West Ham. Sheffield Wednesday could actually be the better fit.
