It sounds like West Ham United are finally making their move to guarantee the signing of Gonzalo Montiel this summer.
In the past few hours, several media outlets from Argentina have been claiming that a bid from the Hammers is about to arrive at River Plate’s offices.
TyC Sports was one of those who reported it, saying that according to the player’s staff, the Hammers are offering €8m for the 80% which the Buenos Aires club own of the player.
They write it was Manuel Lanzini who recommended Montiel, and the right-back would still need to get a work permit in order to feature in the Premier League.
Something similar was reported by other outlets. AS writes that in the past few hours, ‘it’s been said’ that an offer from West Ham should be made next week. The Hammers would make a bid of €9m for the 80% that River Plate have of Montiel.
Fox Sports writes about that too. They say it isn’t known how much the Hammers are about to offer, but River Plate would accept it and finally let the right-back make the move.
Even though there are several local outlets reporting it, it still sounds like none of them has enough information to make it a strong story. That’s why it will be important to keep an eye on the Argentina media at the weekend.
