Tottenham Hotspur moved to their new stadium earlier this month and suffered their first defeat there at the weekend.
Spurs fell to a narrow 1-0 loss at the hands of West Ham United as Michail Antonio’s second half goal was the difference between the two sides.
The north London club dominated possession, but failed to have more shots (14 to West Ham’s 17) and shots on target (Spurs 4 and West Ham had 7) than the Hammers.
One of the reasons why Manuel Pellegrini’s side were successful against Tottenham was their centre-back duo of Issa Diop and Fabián Balbuena.
The 22-year-old was the star performer for West Ham and the Hammers’ last summer signing made six interceptions, eight clearances, blocked three shots and made two tackles, according to WhoScored.
Diop’s standout display has seen him make it to Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week. The Italian newspaper has handed the defender a rating of 7.5, which is considered a good mark for them.
In his debut season, Diop has been one of the standout players for the English club, making more interceptions (51) than any other player for West Ham in the league this season.
He’s also made 134 clearances, won 73 aerial battles and made 63 tackles this term.
