While only used sporadically by David Moyes since his arrival at the club, Edimilson Fernandes always looked like he could be a decent player for West Ham.

The Scottish manager said as much earlier this month, but that all came to an end when the 21-year-old suffered an ankle injury and was operated last week.

Revealing the procedure on Instagram, there were fears in Switzerland the youngster could miss out on a spot in Vladimir Petkovic’s squad to Russia in June, but those have since been alleviated by the player himself.

Speaking to Le Nouvelliste on Tuesday, the West Ham midfielder said: “I’m taking the cast off in a week and I’ll gently start my physiotherapy. I should be out for a good two months.”

With a return now expected in March, that should give the Hammers’ starlet plenty of time to impress his national team’s manager prior to him making his final decision on the 23-man squad.

So far this season, Fernandes has appeared 10 times for West Ham in all competitions, picking up just one assist.
