West Ham United have been dragged into the picture for Darwin Nunez, with several reports saying the Hammers are part of the building competition for the Benfica striker.
Nunez is being linked with the likes of Juventus, both Milan clubs, both Manchester sides, newly rich Newcastle United… and West Ham.
Sunday’s edition of Record names David Moyes side among several clubs in the picture, and they explain the 22-year-old striker’s agent is travelling to Lisbon for talks about a future transfer.
It’s thought Benfica don’t want to sell in January, feeling they have a shot at the title, and when they do sell they want to break the €120m record they made when Joao Felix moved to Atletico Madrid.
Nunez would still be expensive, which adds some doubt to the West Ham claims. In their favour is that Moyes has long had his clubs send scouts to Portugal, so he will have caught attention.
Going against it is that West Ham weren’t on the scouting list for Friday night’s match between Benfica and Sporting, and there’s few better matches to watch Nunez in this season.
Arthur Cabral at FC Basel looks a much better value option, and much easier to get in January.
