There’s nothing like a bit of Premier League interest to help a footballer get a good renewal, and that’s what may have happened with Thomas Partey and Atletico Madrid.

Thomas has been a good squad option for Diego Simeone but hardly gets any minutes, so when West Ham and Middlesbrough interest was reported in the player it was taken seriously in Spain.

Just a few days after the West Ham and Middlesbrough claims, Atletico have announced that Thomas has renewed his contract with the club. The deal deal binds the 23 year old to Atletico until 2021, and he’s been quoted as saying: I’m very happy. I want to continue growing in Atleti.”

So is that is for Slaven Bliic and Aitor Karanka? Probably.

Whilst a new contract doesn’t rule out a transfer it usually makes one less likely, and Thomas has shown he has no immediate plans to leave the club. Of course, should a big bid land on Atletico’s table the club may think differently.
