Guillermo Maripan hasn’t played for Alaves since April 19th, in a match against Rayo Valladolid.
He picked up an ankle sprain and it’s been more complicated than usual, partly because of the swelling. Since then he’s had a period of complete rest, before working on strengthening the ankle, and training away from his teammates.
The defender has been repeatedly linked with West Ham recently, with claims being passed around between the media in England, Spain and Chile.
Manuel Pellegrini has been linked to several of his compatriots since taking over at the Hammers.
West Ham interest is referenced again today by Marca, and they explain Alaves aren’t going to play Maripan in their final matches, even if he’s ready.
That’s because the club are concerned he could pick up a new injury which would scupper a summer transfer. An exit is now thought to be likelier than a stay, and Alaves will look for a club to pay the player’s full €25m release clause.
