Bold claims were made by Sky Sports on Sunday regarding West Ham and their interest in Joan Jordan, as the UK outlet reported a bid of £13m had been launched.
This amount, depending on the currency converter, would be just about enough to trigger the midfielder’s release clause, which stands at €15m over at SD Eibar.
The 24-year-old is reportedly a target for Sevilla, who are yet to meet the fee, and it felt a bit like the Hammers’ inclusion in all this was to put pressure on the La Liga side.
In fact, the Spanish media even believed West Ham had pulled out of the race, but that doesn’t appear to entirely be the case.
According to La Vanguardia, the Premier League side have ‘intruded’ on the Sevilla negotiations for Jordan, and ‘could offer’ the clause’s amount i.e. €3m more than what the Spaniards have bid so far.
This is all of great interest to Espanyol, who sold Jordan to Eibar in 2017, as they would receive 20% of the fee.
Should the midfielder head to London instead of Sevilla, that would be €3m in their pockets instead of €2.4m from the €12m offered by Monchi.
