One of the key members of Sampdoria’s team this season under Claudio Ranieri, Morten Thorsby has attracted a lot of attention with his performances.
The central midfielder, an area of the pitch West Ham are keen to improve this summer, made 33 appearances in Serie A, scored three goals and assisted another, but with the Italian manager now leaving, the Norway international could follow suit.
The news comes from Gazzetta dello Sport, who explain that it’s ‘no coincidence that he has been evaluated several times’ by scouts from Germany and ‘club intermediaries of the English Premier League, such as West Ham’.
Seen as ideal for either league, Thorsby could also remain in Italy as Napoli and Atalanta have ‘repeatedly studied him live with positive relationships’.
There’s no mention of the price West Ham would need to fork out to get the Sampdoria man, but considering the Serie A side got him from Heerenveen on a free, any money brought in would be a profit.
With two years left on his current deal, you’d expect the Hammers to fork out a potential eight figure sum for him, although how high that would go will be up to the Italians and, of course, the amount of competition for his services.
