Leander Dendoncker is one of the star players for Anderlecht and his ability to play in more than one position has seen him attract interest from clubs for more than a year.
There was concrete interest for his signature from the Premier League and Ligue 1, with West Ham United and AS Monaco both believed to be keen on landing him in the last summer window.
Dendoncker admitted to it having “negative” impact on his performance following his failed transfer to West Ham and Monaco, but he picked up form and is currently part of the Belgium squad for the 2018 World Cup.
The 23-year-old has already revealed that he is willing to negotiate during the tournament in Russia. According to the Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, West Ham’s interest is “still there” in Dendoncker, despite another failed approach for the player in January.
Lyon have now joined Manuel Pellergini’s side in being keen on the Anderlecht player. Dendoncker fits the type of players the French club are looking to sign this summer. However, the Belgium international has reservations over playing in Ligue 1.
Could this be an advantage for West Ham in landing Dendoncker in the summer transfer window? If they do move for him, let’s hope it’s all more straightforward than last time and there’s no Deadline Day images of a sad Dendoncker at Anderlecht training ground.
