On Tuesday we covered claims from Spain that West Ham are expected to pay Maxi Gomez’s €50m release clause.
The Hammers were so keen to sign the Celta Vigo player that the clause wasn’t a barrier, and it was claimed the amount could be deposited as early as yesterday.
Gomez was up for the transfer, and expected to see his wage increase tenfold, from €400k/year to €4m/year with a ‘progressive contract’.
Wednesday’s edition of Marca has it differently.
West Ham are said to be interested and the English club are currently ‘studying’ their options to sign the striker.
Paying the €50m isn’t ruled out, but Marca states that it’s not something the club really wants to do, naturally.
There’s certainly no definitive claims on this from the Spanish newspaper, they don’t say the transfer is absolutely happening, just present it as an option.
There’s every chance West Ham are working on several tracks, and this is just one of those.
