On a few occasions during March, West Ham United have been linked with a move for Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu.
The claims started in Italy, and appeared to be an attempt to hype the player’s form this season, which it seems hasn’t been given enough attention. It looks like there’s been an attempt to dangle the former Barcelona player in front of the market, with West Ham named in nearly all of the reports.
Tuesday’s edition of Messaggero Veneto, covered by UdineseBlog, explains that following his goal against Napoli at the weekend, Deulofeu has become the club’s top scorer this season.
The 28-year-old has nine goals and two assists in the current campaign, playing as a striker or supporting the frontman. His form has seen him attract attention from elsewhere, and it’s thought a summer move is on the cards.
West Ham and Marseille have been conducting a ‘courtship’ of the player, but it’s stated he’s not jumped at either chance, because he has his eyes on a return to Spanish football.
According to the report, Sevilla and Real Betis are in some kind of tussle for him, although this isn’t something being reported strongly in Spain, so if West Ham interest is genuine then all isn’t lost.
