West Ham’s interest in having Simone Inzaghi as their boss for the next season was taken with some surprise in Italy.
Newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, who broke the news on Wednesday morning, report the interest as a concern for Lazio.
After claiming West Ham have a five-year deal prepared for Inzaghi, the newspaper then concentrates on how Lazio can keep Inzaghi. The manager’s contract runs until the end of the season, and the club are only protected by an automatic renewal if they finish in fifth place in the league or beat Juventus in the cup final.
This new deal would have a release clause, although the amount is not mentioned by the newspaper.
Currently in fourth place, Inzaghi continues to manage Lazio towards a European place, and the triggering of the extension.
Corriere Dello Sport claim West Ham want a younger manager after Slaven Bilic. The interest in Inzaghi is said to be serious and the club will keep monitoring his situation.
Inzaghi is 41, Bilic is 48, there’s not a great deal of difference.
