Long ignored by his national team due to his lack of game time at Tottenham, Nacer Chadli’s move to West Brom over the summer has changed a lot for him.
Showing impressive creativity and finishing with his club, the forward impressed Roberto Martinez enough with his performances to earn himself a call-up to the Belgium squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking to DH ahead of the game against Bosnia, the player shared his joy at being called back to the group, having missed the Euros and the last international break.
He said: “It makes me really happy. Since I signed for West Brom, I’ve been able to play four games, and it’s allowed me to come back. Changing clubs was a good thing, I just wanted to play as much as possible and wasn’t thinking too much about the national team.
“The most important is to do your best with your club. My good form just happened. I chose to leave because I wasn’t playing much at Tottenham.”
Since moving from White Hart Lane to the Hawthorns, the 27-year-old has picked up three goals and two assists in four games, and you would expect him to continue this with his national team going into the international break.
In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, a spot has opened up in Roberto Martinez’s 3-4-2-1, which Chadli could certainly take full advantage of.
Either that, or he’ll end up as a wing-back.
