The Baggies are looking to bring in a replacement for the likely departing Allan Nyom and on July 18th, we carried a report from AS, who explained Iván Balliu has emerged as ‘one of the objectives’ for the English club.

The Albania international’s contract with Metz has expired and the defender is currently available on a free transfer.

Sport join in on Tuesday, also claiming Slaven Bilic’s side see the 27-year-old as a substitute for Nyom, himself a target for Getafe.

Balliu’s performance for Metz and Albania have made him a target for several clubs in England, Spain and France.

The report mentions the Baggies, Espanyol, Real Valladolid and RC Lens as the ‘possible destinations’ for the 27-year-old.

Though Lens are interested, the Ligue 2 side are aware they will not be in a position to compete with powerful clubs like West Brom for the defender.

Valladolid’s priority is to sign Pedro Porro over Balliu, but signing the latter is ‘very appealing’ for Espanyol.

Sport’s report does not indicate if the player has made a decision on his future, but the suggestion is the final fight for his services could be between West Brom and Espanyol.
