Despite being heavily linked to a move to Italy this summer, it seems that West Bromwich Albion fullback Kieran Gibbs could be heading to Portugal instead.
The player is on the front page of newspaper Record today, with claims that there are ‘advanced talks’ for him to join Sporting.
According to the outlet, Gibbs has already told WBA he wants to leave, as he’s not keen on playing the Championship. He’s also said to be excited to have the chance to play in another country for the first time in his career.
Now there are two options Sporting have to sign him. One is to get the player on a loan deal, with an option to buy him for €5m at the end of the season. During the spell, the Lions would pay for 80% of his salary.
The alternative would be to sign Gibbs on a permanent deal, also for €5m. Problem in this case would be to negotiate his salary.
Gibbs is said to be excited with the opportunity, as he’s following the negotiations and approved the project shown by Sporting. Now it looks like a matter of the two clubs finding a deal.
