West Brom fans are probably getting tired of seeing the club heavily linked to William Carvalho lately. After the Baggies made a bid last summer and Tony Pulis made his interest public, there’s no way this story will fade away quickly.
And we must recall that last week, it was pointed out that Carvalho would not be the only West Brom target at Sporting. It was claimed the club are also interested in Bas Dost, the Dutch striker who’s been having a fantastic first season for the Lions.
To our surprise, now a third target shows up. This time with the rumour coming from Italy, it’s said the Baggies have been keeping an eye on Gelson Martins.
It’s Calcio Mercato who make the claims, giving no credits to other outlets. It just sounds strange given the story is very short, and they don’t say it’s an exclusive.
However, there’s no other story linking Gelson Martins to West Brom, leading us to believe the rumour really started at Calcio Mercato.
Currently with a €60m release clause, Martins had a great start of season for Sporting, but his form dropped along with the team’s. He’s been linked to big clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid this year, but none of the claims were convincing.
Perhaps West Brom will now be linked with every Sporting player, after Tony Pulis confirmed the club are being scouted.
