Leaving things very late, West Brom’s transfer deadline day appeared to be, at least from our end, a bit of a mess.
Negotiating for players around Europe, Tony Pulis’ side ended up bringing in free agent Hal Robson-Kanu as their striker signing, which, Cruyff-turn hype aside, might be considered a bit underwhelming.
It’s not like they didn’t try, though, and they were even part of one of the longest ongoing sagas of any transfer window: Moussa Sissoko’s future.
According to L’Equipe, up until Tuesday, only one club had made a concrete move to try and sign the former Championship player, and that was West Brom.
The Baggies are reported to have made an offer (amount not disclosed in the article) to Newcastle for the France international, but clearly it didn’t match Mike Ashley’s expectations.
The rest, though, is history.
Tottenham came in late, snapping Sissoko up from under Everton’s noses, despite interest from Chelsea earlier on on Wednesday.
When West Brom saw they weren’t going to get Sissoko, they moved onto Ignacio Camacho, but that’s a different story altogether.
