Rangers target Daniel Candeias is getting ready to leave Benfica on a permanent deal. Signed by the club in 2014, the player never had the chance to play for them, and now seems tired of the four different loans he’s had since.
The midfielder has given an interview to Portuguese newspaper Record, and wasn’t afraid to say he’s close to moving on. Despite having two more years of contract with the Eagles, the hope is he will get game time somewhere else.
“It’s true I had the chance to make the pre-season when I arrived, but then I was told I wasn’t going to stay,” the Pedro Caixinha target told Record. “It’s ok, but, in my point of view, I believe I deserved to have an opportunity.
“I just want to play and it happened this year. I felt important. But I’m already 29 and I need stability, it’s very important for a player”.
Asked about Rangers’ interest, the player made sure to leave the possibility of an Ibrox move open: “It’s always good to have your name linked to big clubs. I know the manager well, because we’ve worked together at Nacional, and if there’s interest we’ll talk.”
Last week, Candeias’ agent Antonio Teixeira spoke to Sport Witness and confirmed talks with Rangers. However, he also claimed Alanyaspor, where the player spent last season, are also keen on keeping him.
