Liverpool were one of the clubs who lost out to Barcelona in the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo.
That’s according to agent Bruno Satin, and he revealed this detail during a chat with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.
The centre-back spent two years with Toulouse’s youth system before he was promoted to the first team in 2018. He had then caught the attention of a few clubs and Liverpool were one of them.
However, the 24-year-old was keen on making a switch to the La Liga side in 2019 and that convinced him to snub the Reds and other clubs. Satin mentioned this when asked if the defender was close to Napoli in the past.
“[Former Napoli director Cristiano] Giuntoli asked me, but there was Liverpool, Juventus and Leverkusen, but then the boy wanted Barcelona and we chose to accommodate him,” he said.
According to a report from Marca in 2021, Satin was the agent who took the player to the Camp Nou.
The France international’s decision to pick Barcelona over Liverpool and others didn’t work out in his favour. He was at the Catalan club for two years, during which he was sent on loan to Schalke, Benfica and OGC Nice, and the latter made his stay permanent in 2021.
Todibo has been with the Ligue 1 side since then and his performances have resulted in claims of interest from the Premier League in recent months.
