Young Senegalese left back Layousse Diallo was reportedly a transfer target for Watford and AS Monaco during the summer.

However, the 19-year-old signed for Avellino on a free transfer from Fiorentina. Diallo has been speaking to Italian website Otto Pagine, and was asked about the interest from clubs during the summer.

The Avellino star insists his focus in on the Serie B club, and he’s hoping to improve his game.

He said: “The interest of many big clubs in me? Sincerely I’m focused on Avellino. I have to correct some flaws, they tell me I’m too impulsive.

“I’ll try to improve. My natural role is left-back and that’s why my idol is Marcelo. With the Este I also played as a midfielder and striker in Serie D.”

Should Watford be, or have been, genuinely be interested in signing Diallo, then they surely could have secured a deal over the summer, or will be able to in future.

Diallo has signed a three-year contract at Avellino, and has featured regularly for the Serie B side so far this season.
