Back in April, Record reported Watford were leading the race for SC Farense goalkeeper Ricardo Velho.
On May 8th, the same outlet reported Watford had initiated contact to sign the 26-year-old in the summer window. The Hornets weren’t able to secure his services and finished the window by adding Jonathan Bond to their squad.
Fast forward to September and today’s edition of O Jogo states he’s attracted interest from Watford, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Benfica had also looked at the stopper, but he didn’t leave Farense. They have lost all five league games this season and Velho conceded 12 goals in these matches. However, his displays haven’t deserved that and the situation would be far worse without him.
Farense suffered a 2-1 loss to FC Porto on Sunday. Despite the result, O Jogo claim the stopper put in a ‘spectacular performance’ by making 10 saves against the Dragons. With that, he now leads the table for most saves [24] this season.
Velho’s deal lasts until 2026, and has a €10m release clause. Watford would likely at least attempt to negotiate that figure down, but this looks like an exciting possibility to follow.
