Christian Kabasele signed for Watford from Genk this summer in a €7m deal, but has rarely played since his arrival in England.
Despite that, Kabasele was called up for the national team, and made his debut against the Netherlands, his international progress aided by a mini Belgian injury crisis.
Kabasele has been speaking to Fan!(via Voetbal Nieuws), and was asked why he left Genk to sign for Watford.
The 25-year-old was part of the Belgium squad at the Euros in France, but didn’t feature throughout the tournament. Kabasele insists he was forced to move abroad to remain in national team contention.
He added: “To remain in the core of the national team, I was almost forced to move abroad. And I barely got into trouble against attackers from the Belgian league.”
The Belgian defender added he felt it was a time for a new challenge. However, with just 60 minutes under his belt so far in the Premier League, he’d be hoping to change things soon.
Kabasele has made a couple of starts in the League Cup, but it seems Watford manager Walter Mazzarri isn’t convinced yet.
