According to France Football, Didier Ndong turned down the chance to return to French football in order to sign for Watford on loan until the end of the season.

The Sunderland defensive midfielder, for whom the Hornets have an option to buy if he impresses, was a target for Saint-Etienne in France, who ended up signing Yann M’Vila instead.

The French magazine explain the Ligue 1 side wanted to add some strength to their midfield, and targeted the Black Cats’ record signing, probably on a loan deal, but he simply said no.

Ndong is said to have wanted to once again play in the Premier League, which he did for a season at the Stadium of Light under David Moyes, only to end up getting relegated to the Championship.

Now at Vicarage Road, the 23-year-old is currently serving a suspension after a red card he picked up for Sunderland against Cardiff, and will miss Watford’s game tonight against Chelsea.
