Signed from Udinese by Watford for close to £10m back in 2016, Adalberto Peñaranda hasn’t exactly lived up to the huge talent he displayed in the early days of his career.

A string of more or less successful loans, including spells at the likes of KAS Eupen and CSKA Sofia, never convinced any of the many managers at Vicarage Road to give him a real chance.

In fact, he has only ever made four appearances for Watford over the past six years, all in the cups, and made the bench for a league game three times, the latest of which came in a 3-1 loss to Southampton back in June 2020.

His current contract with the Hornets expires next year, which is why this summer was crucial if they wanted to get him off the books, and that appears to be done.

This comes via Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, who explain the player ‘will be a reinforcement for Boavista’, with the Venezuela international signing a contract of three years until 2025.

As for Watford, they are letting him go on a free, with the Primeira Liga side set to get 60% of his transfer, meaning the Hornets will get 40% of any future sale, which would be a nice way for the Championship side to make some future money if Peñaranda hits the ground running in Portugal going forward.
