The name Tobias Pachonik might not mean a lot to Watford fans, but to the scouting network, he’s someone they’ve been monitoring for some time.
We say that because back in March 2018, reports emerged the right-back was being supervised by the Premier League side, back when he played for Carpi in Serie B.
Since then, the 24-year-old German has swapped Italy for Holland, where he currently plays for VVV-Venlo (the same club as Lee Cattermole), and the interest from Watford is still there, suggesting this comes from the Pozzo scouting network rather than the manager’s.
This is what Elf Voetbal are reporting on Monday, claiming the Hornets sent a scout to watch the 24-year-old in action as his team lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven.
Despite the result, Pachonik managed to stamp his mark on the game, bagging his side’s only goal with a well-timed volley.
Elf Voetbal state the player could be a January target for Watford, as well as Sampdoria (who also had a scout present), since he has a ‘low transfer clause’ in his contract with the Dutch side, which currently runs until 2022.
