On Monday, we belatedly relayed some information from L’Equipe claiming that Lens in Ligue 2 were interested in signing Watford’s long forgotten defender Brice Dja Djédjé.
The right-back has made his situation well-known, accusing both the Hornets and Marco Silva of many things, and an exit in January would be a dream come true for him.
Well, it seems the French newspaper’s information was well founded, as the Ivory Coast international was apparently present at Lens’ game against Tours on Monday night, one the northern club won 2-0.
According to local newspaper La Voix du Nord, while discussions have already taken place between the club and the player, the Ligue 2 side, rather financially restrained, is hoping Watford agree to release Dja Djédjé instead of asking money for him.
Considering how little he’s played, the problems he could cause if they refuse and the fact he only cost £3m or so in the first place, doing so might be in everyone’s best interest, which is something Lens’ director of football, Eric Roy, is working towards.
This seems to certainly have some legs, and we’ll keep you updated on anything else that comes out of France on the matter.
