Maxwel Cornet’s Man of the Match performance and double strike as Lyon drew 2-2 with Manchester City brought the player some attention.
He was even linked with an unlikely move to the Premier League champions, but whilst he may have enjoyed a big night in the Champions League, his season to date hasn’t been so great.
Lyon have other options and Cornet has only started a single Ligue 1 match so far this season. His return of goals over league, cup and European matches isn’t so bad and interest in taking the 22 year old away from the French club surely exists.
Friday’s edition of L’Equipe pushes Watford front and centre in the chase to sign him.
It’s explained the Hornets have ‘initiated contact’ and have offered ‘salary conditions’ which have given the player something to think about. He’s not yet made his mind up on the move, but Lyon are prepared to sell him for €20m.
Watford are said to be willing to meet those requirements and have spoken to the French club.
AC Milan are interested, but they won’t be able to put their hands on €20m right now as easily as Watford will.
