Watford’s Luis Suárez has admitted he was ‘excited’ to see himself linked with Barcelona, but his future will depend on the Hornets.

The striker is currently on loan at La Liga 2 side Zaragoza, where he has proven to be a huge hit, scoring 17 goals in the league so far.

His form has not gone unnoticed in Spain, with reports throughout January indicating that several La Liga sides were keeping a close eye on him.

At one-point Barcelona were named as suitors, with it believed they had the Watford man on a list of possible signings as they sought out a replacement for his namesake Luis Suárez.

Ultimately that move never happened, with Suárez staying at Zaragoza and Barça electing to sign Martin Braithwaite from Leganés.

Suárez’s future remains in the air, though, with it looking likely he will return to Vicarage Road this summer and some reports even indicating they are planning to tie him down to a new deal and integrate him into the first-team squad next season.

That remains to be seen, and the striker admits the decision will be firmly in Watford’s hands.

“Anyone is excited to see his name ringing for a big guy like Barça,” he told El Transistor.

“But right now I think about my present: I work and fight to secure promotion with Zaragoza, next year we will see my future and what Watford does.”
