With Troy Deeney and Stefano Okaka already in the squad, another imposing striker doesn’t appear to be top of the needs list at Watford these days, but it appears the Hornets are still scouting for the role if L’Equipe are to be believed.
The French newspaper on Monday look at the situation of the Guingamp squad in Ligue 1 going into the transfer window, with 23-year-old Alexandre Mendy one of the likely departing players in the coming months.
Signed on a free from Nice last summer, the 6’1” forward has been used sporadically over the past campaign, scoring six goals in 29 appearances, and has attracted a few suitors in the process.
L’Equipe state that Watford, Angers and Bordeaux have already ‘expressed their interest’ in the striker, but with Walter Mazzarri on his way out at Vicarage Road, we’ll have to see if Mendy was one of his targets or not.
The striker has been granted an exit pass by the club, and with two years left on his contract, Guingamp are likely to demand some kind of fee for their forward, even if it won’t be a big one.
