Remo Freuler left Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 and joined Bologna on a loan deal.

After an impressive first season back in Italy, the midfielder’s move to the Rossoblu was made permanent in the summer of 2024.

The decision is clearly paying off for Freuler, who played in the Champions League this season and could do the same next season, with Bologna still very much in the race for the top four in Serie A.

The Swiss star has spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport about his decision to leave Nottingham Forest and join the Italian side and whether he regrets his choice or not.

He responded, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb: “Absolutely never. Here in Bologna I discovered wellbeing. I found everything I need to play at the top, we are experiencing beautiful things. Bologna was the right choice.

When asked about his potential new deal at Bologna, the Switzerland international said: “There is time, but certainly my family and I are not [just] good here, but very good. Bologna was the right choice.”

The 33-year-old was also asked about the bond he shares with his teammates under Vincenzo Italiano and he stated:

“A truly beautiful and healthy group. We work looking for details, we grow together, we even go out to dinner together or have a drink, there is no personalism, selfishness. There is the ‘us’, a strong and true group, and this has brought us great advantages.”

Freuler’s time at Nottingham Forest had a fair amount of ups and downs, largely because of how he was excluded from the starting XI multiple times towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

This happened despite the fact that the midfielder had vast experience of playing in the Champions League during his time at Atalanta, where he was also constantly inside the top four in Serie A.

Keeping that in mind, it is easy to see why he is enjoying life at Bologna and he will have no complaints at all, if they qualify for the Champions League once again.
