Vincent Kompany is leading Bayern Munich into a potential move for Manchester City’s Sergio Gómez, adding pressure to the ongoing negotiations with Real Sociedad.
That’s according to COPE, who say that while Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Gómez and his agents, Bayern Munich’s sudden interest has complicated matters.
They explain that the Spanish side see a ‘unique opportunity’ in Gómez this summer, hence their push to try and sign him over the last week or so.
Negotiations with Manchester City on that front have been progressing and the pieces of the puzzle falling into place little by little, helped by Gómez’s desire to make the move and get regular playing time away from the Etihad.
Talks are at an advances stage at this point, but Manchester City are yet to sign off on a deal for the defender to head back to Spain with Sociedad.
Now Kompany is complicating matters as he and Bayern Munich are showing interest in the player, who he had at Anderlecht.
They are currently threatened by the potential departure of Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid and may need a replacement, so are now looking at Gómez.
Manchester City, though, would be reluctant to sell to a direct competitor in the Champions League and that could end up giving Real Sociedad an advantage. In the meantime, though, Kompany’s sudden interest is adding pressure to the situation.
Whether that tempts Real Sociedad to up their efforts and try to get a deal over the line remains to be seen.
