Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler didn’t include Valentín Barco in his core plans at The Amex this season. This resulted in the left-back making a loan switch to Sevilla on August 23rd.
The 20-year-old will have to compete with another summer signing, Adrià Pedrosa, for a place at Sevilla. The duo are tasked with filling the void left by Marcos Acuña’s exit.
Acuña was the first-choice for the La Liga side for four years, before leaving them for River Plate in the last window.
Monday’s edition of Diario de Sevilla says the Brighton owned player and Pedrosa haven’t been convincing yet.
Pedrosa has made five league appearances, while the Argentina U21 international has been limited to only one start for Sevilla. They have one win from six league games this season.
The newspaper states Sevilla manager García Pimienta has several problems, but the left-back one needs to be resolved soon. They have conceded eight goals and five of them originated from the opposition’s right side.
Pimienta replaced Pedrosa with the Brighton man against Girona, and his side suffered a 2-0 loss. Diario de Sevilla even blamed the South American for the first goal.
This clearly shows the problem still persists and the two summer signings are offering ‘no solution’ so far.
Brighton will be hoping for Barco’s situation at Sevilla to improve in the coming weeks and months.
