When we relayed an article from Le10 Sport in France that Pablo Correa was reportedly in talks to become Oldham Athletic’s new manager, the reaction from fans was lukewarm to say the least.
Many felt John Sheridan was the right person for their club, yet it seems the new potential investor/owner, Abdallah Lemsagam, does not.
The agent/intermediary is said to be in talks with chairman Simon Corney about investing in/taking over the club, and it seems that, as part of these talks, a new manager could be installed at Boundary Park, with that man being Pablo Correa.
Over at AS Nancy Lorraine, the Uruguayan’s last club, things are a little bit complicated, with his exit yet to be finalised even if he isn’t in charge of the team any longer.
Correa is said to want the last year and a half of his contract paid to him, and while he is negotiating that, he is also making regular trips to Oldham to discuss his new job.
According to L’Est Républicain in France, the 50-year-old returned from one trip to the north of England towards the middle of last week, met with Nancy on Thursday to talk about his compensation, before heading back to the Manchester area on Saturday, proving some negotiations are underway.
But what is the relationship between Lemsagam and Pablo Correa? Well, the French newspaper explain the two know each other from negotiations in the past, when the manager was trying to bring certain players to Nancy.
There’s also a chance Oldham could benefit from the agent’s friendship with Nantes owner Waldemar Kita, with L’Est Républicain hinting a few loans could be on the horizon.
First, though, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with the club as a whole before worrying about a managerial change.
