Despite Flamengo’s buying option to sign Andreas Pereira from Manchester United on a permanent deal, it’s been widely reported for the past couple of months that the clubs found an agreement to complete the move for only €10m.
The Rio de Janeiro side have been delaying the purchase for several reasons, and the latest of them has been a sanction from the Central Bank which should soon be solved.
Now with Flamengo not using the buying option and relying on a verbal agreement, there’s a chance Manchester United could still negotiate his move with another club. That possibility is brought by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, who adds that it’s quite unlikely anyone else would pay more than Flamengo for the transfer.
“There’s an agreement with Manchester United, but Flamengo will hardly anticipate the payment because they have a contract until the middle of the year,” said Mauro Cezar (via Torcedores).
“The only way for the English club to give up is for someone to come up with a better offer. Unlikely to happen. Flamengo will wait for the Central Bank issue and other issues involving billing, performance and signings to pay and close the deal. The tendency is to continue in as things are until the thing is resolved.”
Andreas Pereira was loaned by Manchester United last summer and is staying at Flamengo until June. The Rio de Janeiro side recently made public their intention of keeping the player, despite protests from their own fans due to the midfielder’s poor form.
