Despite months of claims of Manchester United interest in Kieran Trippier, the media closest to Atletico Madrid has been relatively calm.
There’s a belief in Madrid that Trippier is very happy where he is, and he’s said this whenever given the opportunity to do so. There’s been no contact from the Red Devils about a potential move, so that hasn’t been a source of panic either.
Now the worry is growing, at least a little.
AS cover claims from England that Trippier has told his national teammates he fancies a move to Old Trafford. Should that be true, and AS aren’t entirely convinced, then it will force Diego Simeone’s side into the market.
To be clear, the slant seems to be that should Trippier push for a move to Manchester United, then there’s a good chance that such a move will happen.
That would leave Simeone short, as the club’s other right-back options simply aren’t up to the job right now. Santiago Arias has had long term injury issues, and Šime Vrsaljko is in a similar situation.
Therefore, the ‘unexpected headache’ of Tripper leaving would mean Atletico would have to work in the market. Now the Spanish club will want to find out if the claims from England are correct.
Whilst AS don’t mention it, there’s a reasonable chance Diogo Dalot, and a move to Atletico, will be dragged into this scenario should Manchester United interest in Trippier be concrete.
