Ever Banega and Arsenal isn’t going to go anywhere.
That’s because it’s the new Steven N’Zonzi to Arsenal.
With the French midfielder moving to AS Roma after winning the World Cup, Banega always looked well placed to replace him in the rumour stakes for the Gunners.
The Argentine midfielder was linked repeatedly during the summer transfer window and despite his wish to remain at Sevilla, the English media have been pushing it all again.
This leads Mundo Deportivo, who clearly want to buy the claims, to describing Unai Emery as ‘obsessed’ and saying he’s given Arsenal orders to get the signing done.
From a Spanish perspective, Mundo explains that, as far they’re concerned, Banega has already turned down advances from the Premier League club in the summer. His family are very comfortable with their life in Sevilla and don’t intend to swap it for London.
What may be a little light, of there’s truth in the Emery obsession, is that despite repeat talk of a renewal being close for Banega, Sevilla haven’t sorted it out yet.
