Luis Enrique was in charge at the Camp Nou when Barcelona signed Andre Gomes from Valencia in 2016. He started in 17 league games in his debut season with the La Liga winners.
The Portuguese international has seen his first team appearances restricted, making just six starts in the league under Enrique’s successor, Ernesto Valverde in the last campaign. He is one of the players the club are planning to offload in the summer transfer window.
Over the past few weeks, there have been reports of interest from the Premier League for Gomes. Unai Emery’s Arsenal were believed to be one of the clubs looking at the option of landing the 24-year-old.
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo have a short story, from the well connected Miguel Rico, which claims the midfielder is not in the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain manager’s ‘plans for the immediate’ future at the Emirates Stadium.
There may be interest from Arsenal, but Rico doesn’t think it’s a priority for Arsenal right now, with Emery already in the process of bringing other midfielders to the club this summer.
