Local Seville newspaper Estadio Deportivo goes with a headline today reading ‘Everton wants Carvalho, but he has to make cash before – Betis remains in the lead’.

It’s stated that William Carvalho has been given a deadline of today to tell Betis whether or not he wants to sign for them. The Spanish club have ‘done everything possible’ to try and reach a deal for the player.

Despite rescinding his Sporting contract, it’s been claimed by Estadio Deportivo that a fee of €20m plus a further €5m in bonuses has been agreed, and Carvalho would receive €2.5m after tax per season on a five year deal.

It’s claimed: ‘Silva is interested in working with his former pupil again, although Everton needs to make cash, according to Record, before making an attack, which keeps Betis in front for signing the player.’

But that isn’t what Record actually say.

The Portuguese newspaper do say Everton have entered the race, and need to get rid of some ‘surplus’ in midfield, but money doesn’t get a mention.

Carvalho is said to be stalling on Betis because of the opportunity to sign for Everton or AS Monaco.

The Toffees aren’t short of cash, despite what Estadio Deportivo are telling their readers, and can compete now if they wish.
