Following Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium last night, manager Unai Emery spoke to ESPN Brasil.
With Mesut Ozil being crucial for the Gunners’ comeback with one goal and one assist, the interview obviously had to be about the German star’s performance.
Emery explained that he trusts the player’s potential to lead Arsenal to wins, but made it clear that for it to happen, they need Ozil to be as consistent as possible.
“We try to help him, make him regular, with consistency, so that he be the protagonist on the pitch,” Emery told ESPN Brasil. “Try to give him everything he needs off the pitch so he can be restful.”
“Truth is that the happier he is, the better he is. I’ll demand from him, because he can take the responsibility, as he did today. He has the capacity to help the team with his quality, because he gives us a plus, as he’s done tonight.
“We’ll keep insisting on this regularity, in these demands of him, so we can all enjoy together, seeking wins and doing good games.”
After last night’s performance, Mesut Ozil now has four goals and one assist in nine appearances for Arsenal this season.
Arsenal now prepare to face Sporting CP in the Europa League at the Estádio José de Alvalade on Thursday. Whoever wins this match will go to the top of Group E, as the Gunners and Lions are currently tied with six points each.
