After seeming like pretty much done, it sounds like Umaro Embalo’s transfer from Benfica to RB Leipzig has collapsed.
It’s been a while since the clubs were said to have an agreement for the 16-year-old, as the German side would pay over €15m.
This big amount was pointed out as the reason why many clubs gave up on signing the teenager, including Manchester United, whose interest was revealed by the player’s agent.
But according to reports from Germany and Portugal today, Embalo has failed to reach a personal agreement with RB Leipzig, making the move very unlikely to happen this window.
Outlets O Jogo and Kicker both report that his agent Cátio Baldé didn’t have his demands accepted by the German side, and the deal should be called off immediately.
This could end up meaning a chance to several sides in the summer, especially because Benfica don’t seem afraid to sell the youngster.
Question is: will someone have the courage to pay €15m like Leipzig were prepared to? Wages are obviously not a problem for Manchester United, but the club’s reluctance in spending so much on a teenager would continue to be a barrier.
Benfica may have to reassess their demands.
